We were made to sing together.
It is our birthright to sing and weave song in community, and we are re-awakening to the necessity of song – as a balm, as resistance, as and act of our innate human creativity. But teaching and leading a song don’t always come naturally, even to lifelong singers.
So, how do we begin?
In this 90-minute workshop with community organizer and songleader, audrey voon, you’ll learn the foundations of songleading, from setting a container of intention and care to honoring the time and place and people who birthed a song. You’ll learn the distinction between teaching a brand new song and leading a song that is already well-loved and known by your community. Plus, you’ll receive some helpful pointers and resources for choosing the right song for your group in this moment.

audrey voon is a Portland-based singer, songweaver, and community songleader with over 20 years of experience singing professionally, and a lifetime of singing joyfully. After years of singing in and leading choirs, classes, and song groups for all ages – preK through elders – audrey found her way to songleading via the national Singing Resistance movement in the winter of 2026.
Since joining Singing Resistance, audrey has found a way of teaching and leading songs that is aligned with her natural leadership and singing style. A way of teaching and leading that is not hierarchical, but invites trust and collaboration across a group of singers with a common vision and goal: to sing the world we love. Circle singing invites everyone to step in, to surrender to the song, and to be present to what is here in this very moment.
In all of audrey’s song circles, retreats, and gatherings, she seeks to breathe love into the world, one song at a time.
