"That felt good." — The Inspiration Behind SOUL SINGS

During a recent sit, I found myself resisting the stillness. The breath-body movement I usually do as a warm-up before I meditate just didn’t quite do the trick. And, my mindfulness practice kept getting derailed by the ever infamous monkey brain. A bit frustrated and at a loss for what to do, I sighed.

“That felt good. That felt…really good.”

I sighed again.

Before I knew it, I had found a new rhythm, one that involved my voice. I became curious and started exploring how it felt to allow my voice to travel up and down. I noticed the connection to the breath. The resonance—I like to call them my “vocal vibrations”—set off what felt like a full-body sigh. The heaviness lifted. I felt my inner space soften, my breath slow, and I felt the peace and calm that sitting in stillness brings me time and time again.

My experience with such a potent practice inspired me to share this exploration with you. I’ve designed a class where we will walk through various stages of exploring the voice in meditation. You do not have to identify as a singer, and you don’t need any previous experience meditating. You simply need a curiosity and a willingness to explore what your voice is capable of.
